Week 4 of the NFL is off to a spicy start, as the Cincinnati Bengals escape the Jacksonville Jaguars 24 – 21 in regulation. The win was thanks in large part to a genius audible by Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Burrow went full big brain mode and called a screen for tight end GJ Uzomah to get him open after noticing the Jaguars' defensive formation. The play and succeeding drive would eventually lead to the Bengals converting a field goal to win the game and get them to a 3-1 record.

“You guys have heard me talking about knowing the playbook in the back of my head, seeing looks that I can take advantage of, and that just comes with experience. I know their defensive coordinator had a Baltimore background, they showed some zero on film, I knew I had to be ready for that.”

Talk about gutsy for a second-year guy. It's one thing to know the playbook, but to be ready for it instantly when the time is needed AND execute on the spot is impressive. His tight end, Uzomah, almost couldn't believe what the Bengals QB was calling, but he trusted him and it worked wonders. (via Paul Dehner Jr.)

“I had to double take that one … He called it and gave me a wink. I’m like, ‘this guy is reckless.’ He’s the smartest guy on the field.”

That's an encouraging sign for Bengals fans, to see that decisiveness come out of their young quarterback. Hopefully, this is a sign of great things to come for Joe Burrow and Bengals fans everywhere.
