The Cincinnati Bengals are going to have a new-look offense in 2020, but they want Joe Mixon to remain a focal point for them. Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator for the Bengals, exclaimed that Mixon elevates the team's entire offense.

“He gets better as he gets more carries. As the season went along we got better getting him more touches. When he’s touching the ball 20 plus times, the total at the end of the game means his numbers are usually pretty good. He’s been very effective as far as just pure touches. Carries and catches,” Callahan said, via Geoff Hobson of the team's official site.

“The more Joe touches the ball the better it is for our offense, without a doubt. All the ways we can find to get him the ball, the better it’s going to be,” he continued.

After showing flashes in his rookie season in 2017, Mixon has excelled as Cincinnati's featured back in the last two seasons. The former second-round pick has rushed for 1,100+ yards and five or more touchdowns in the last two seasons.

He's also contributed 108 receptions for 870 yards and another four touchdowns as a receiver since 2017. And with Joe Burrow as his quarterback now, Mixon could see an expanded role as a receiving threat.

While Mixon hasn't gotten the credit he deserves in recent seasons, he's poised to have another stellar campaign in 2020. He'll need to have one if he hopes to garner the contract he desires next offseason. Given what Callahan uttered about Mixon, there's a chance we see the versatile running back handle the largest workload of his career this season.
