The Cincinnati Bengals recently got an encouraging update on wide receiver A.J. Green's recovery. Unfortunately, it seems they are still waiting to see how running back Joe Mixon fares going into Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Mixon suffered a left ankle injury during the first drive of the second half and was never able to return. According to ESPN's Ben Baby, head coach Zac Taylor says he is still listed as day-to-day.

Zac Taylor said RB Joe Mixon is still day-to-day. Said the goal for his practice schedule this week is to make sure he's healthy for Sunday's game against S.F.

The prospect of Mixon having to miss any time would deal a crushing blow to the Bengals offense. He is coming off a breakout 2018 campaign and was not shy about expressing his high expectations heading into this season. He was not able to pick up where he left off against the Seattle Seahawks after registering just 10 yards on six carries before exiting the game.

Given Mixon's integral role on offense, the Bengals may look to take a cautious approach with his injury. Taylor's comments indicate that it is not deemed to be too serious and that they will look to avoid any possibility of further damage.

If he is unable to play against San Francisco, Cincinnati will look to running back Giovani Bernard to fill the void. Bernard registered 21 yards on seven carries along with two receptions for 42 yards in his stead against Seattle. Either way, the veteran will likely see an increase in touches until Mixon is back to 100 percent.
