Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross is entering his third season in the league, and so far he has been a pretty big bust. After missing all of his first season, he only hauled in 21 catches for 210 yards last season in his sophomore campaign. The one big positive from last season was a third of his catches ended with a touchdown.

Tyler Boyd has taken a close look at Ross the first two seasons, and the one thing he has noticed is Ross is thinking too much. This year, he just needs to cut loose:

“With John he’s still thinking,” Boyd said, via the team’s official website. “He’s thinking and then he reacts. I feel like once he gets comfortable and makes plays he’ll be fine. He’s just got to cut it loose. He’s a great player. He runs his routes clean and he’s the fastest guy in the league. Once it comes to him and he can just react, it’ll be like a hot knife through butter.”

Ross has the speed to be an elite receiver in the NFL, and he just needs to start feeling like he belongs in the league. If his comments are any indication, this might be the year he can take the next step forward. Ross said he is super comfortable with the new offense and thinks it will complement his skill set.

“I love it,” Ross said about the new offense. “I think it will play to all of our strengths. We all complement each other really well in a way that will be hard to defend with everyone on the field. . . .”

This is an important season for Ross, and the Bengals need him to step up.
