Despite all the playoff failures over the past several years, there have been two things that have remained unchanged for the Cincinnati Bengals: Andy Dalton and Marvin Lewis.

It will continue to be that way for the Bengals, it seems, at least for the foreseeable future, especially after Lewis voiced his support for Dalton following the team’s 13-9 home loss to the Houston Texans on Thursday. With the loss, the Bengals are now 0-2 on the season. Making matters worse, the Bengals haven’t scored a touchdown yet so far on the year.

In fact, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Lewis has assured Dalton of his position as the Bengals signal-caller.

Lewis, of course, doesn’t have the final say when it comes to team personnel decisions, but coming from a man who’s managed to somehow hold on to his job despite zero playoff wins since taking over as head coach of Cincinnati way back in 2003, that speaks volumes.

Dalton arrived in Cincinnati much later, as the Bengals drafted the former TCU Horned Frog in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Dalton’s partnership with Lewis has been a fruitful one during regular seasons, as the duo led the Bengals to five straight playoff appearances from 2011 to 2015, but went 0-5 in the playoffs during that stretch.

The team missed the boat to the postseason last year and their hopes of making a return this season is in serious jeopardy.
