Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson is expected to miss a few weeks due to the injury he sustained Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Johnson suffered the injury in the first half and did not return. He was replaced by a combination of Jordan Willis and rookie Sam Hubbard. The Bengals also have Carlos Dunlap and Carl Lawson in their defensive end rotation.

Johnson, 31, has been with the Bengals for nine of his 10 years in the NFL. He has played 49 out of a possible 50 games since returning to the Bengals in 2015 after a one-year stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had 5.0 sacks and 49 tackles in 15 games last season.

Johnson initially did not make the cut for the team’s 53-man roster heading into the season, but he was quickly re-signed.

The Bengals have begun this season strongly with back-to-back 34-23 wins over the Colts and Ravens. Their defensive line limited the Ravens to just 66 rushing yards on 3.0 yards per carry and sacked Joe Flacco four times.

The first contest Johnson is set to miss will be the Bengals’ Week 3 date against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers’ offensive line has been decimated by injuries to starting tackles Ryan Kalil and Darryl Williams, as well as All-Pro guard Trai Turner. That should help the Bengals defensive line get the upper hand in the trenches even without their veteran edge defender.
