Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has been no stranger to suspensions throughout his NFL career that has seen him miss several games due to his actions on the field.
Burfict has once again be thrust into the spotlight once again after yet another questionable hit on Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown that was only further compounded with it being reported that he told JuJu Smith-Schuster that he was next. This has led to BetOnline.ag to put up betting odds that Bengals linebacker will be suspended this season.
These odds may favor him not being suspended, but Burfict has seemingly put himself in the position to be fined or suspended seemingly every year. His actions this past week were beyond head scratching as he laid a dirty hit on Brown as he was being tackled to the ground. It had already appeared that he was heading to the ground with two defenders wrapping him and Burfict decided to give a shoulder into the Pro Bowler's helmet as he was on his way down.
There doesn't appear to be any letting up on this regard from him that may make the possibility of him being suspended more possible over the rest of the season. He has already been suspended for six games for more than $2 million in fines for his actions throughout his career. Burfict is also coming off a four-game suspension to begin the season due to violating the league's substance abuse policy that cost him nearly $2 million in his salary for this year.
If he continues on this path where he doesn't appear to have any care for the repercussions of his actions, this could very well put him out of action once again with another suspension down the line in the 2018 campaign. Beyond that, it is something to keep an eye that the NFL will certainly focus on more heavily moving forward.
