There has been plenty of speculation regarding when Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green would make his 2019 NFL season debut. It seems it will not be happening in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns. According to Jay Morrison of The Athletic, head coach Zac Taylor says Green has been ruled out for the road trip to Cleveland.

No surprise, but Zac says A.J. won’t play this week

Green has missed the entire 2019 campaign while nursing an ankle injury. During that time, the Bengals went winless up until they finally emerged victorious over the New York Jets in Week 13. Regardless, it seems the return of quarterback Andy Dalton has not done much for his recovery.

At this point, both sides may be weighing whether or not getting Green involved is even worth the risk. Cincinnati is not playing for much with their 1-11 record except for perhaps the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The prospect of further aggravating the injury or picking up another one to deal with is certainly not an ideal situation for the veteran as he gets set to test the waters of free agency after this season.

Of course, it is for these same reasons that Green may still need to show what he is capable of. If he hopes to get paid like a No. 1 option in the passing game, he will only three games left to do it after this week.

Unfortunately, the seven-time Pro Bowler may not even have the option if he feels he is still not at 100 percent. If that is the case, Green may have a tough time getting another lucrative payday.
