Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis could be entertaining the possibility of leaving the team after this season.

The Bengals started the season 4-1 but have since struggled to find any consistency in losing six of their last seven games.

And with the team seemingly on the verge of their third straight losing season, it appears that the veteran coach could make the decision to leave the franchise.

Here's what ESPN reporter Josina Anderson had to say about Lewis' current situation, courtesy of Jeremy Rauch of Fox 19 in Cincinnati:

Josina Anderson on NFL Live: spoke with #Bengals source who believes Marvin Lewis will take week or two after season to decide his future and in “their opinion” he will choose to move on.

It's certainly interesting to think that the decision will be in Lewis' hands when it comes to whether or not he'll return for his 17th season with the organization, but it sounds like that's where things are headed right now.

Lewis has led Cincinnati to seven playoff appearances during his tenure, but the Bengals have gone 0-7 in those games.

The lack of postseason success has been a main criticism of Lewis over the years, and despite having good regular seasons along the way, it's a business that demands winning in the playoffs.

The Bengals have a solid nucleus in place, and it would likely be a job that attracted plenty of attention should Lewis leave.

Cincinnati will return tot he field on Sunday for a showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers.
