There has been a lot of talk recently about Colby Covington fighting Dustin Poirier in his next fight. The UFC has shown interest in the fight and it could be booked for the summer if both sides agree.

Former referee ‘Big' John has made an interesting comment on why Dustin Poirier would hesitate to accept a fight with Colby Covington. The two UFC fighters used to train together at American Top Team and actually know each other very well.

“If they’ve offered [the Nate Diaz fight] twice to him, it means that Nate didn’t want it maybe?” McCarthy said on a recent episode of his podcast with co-host Josh Thompson (h/t Sportskeeda). “I don’t know if he accepted it. The one thing I will say is this – when he’s sitting there saying he doesn’t want Colby making money off him, that’s not the way to look at it. You’re making money off of Colby… They’ve been in the gym together, they know where they’re strong and where they’re weak against each other. Maybe he doesn’t have the confidence going against Colby.”

It's an interesting comment as Dustin Poirier has plenty of beef with Colby Covington and would no doubt like to fight him if given the chance. The UFC has wanted to book the fight and it's tough to get both men to agree to terms.

Dustin Poirier has said in the past that he's not interested in making Colby Covington money and that's the reason he won't fight him in the UFC. Big John appears to have a different take on the situation.
