Carmelo Anthony's nebulous future in the NBA has raised the question of him potentially exploring playing overseas or even in the BIG3, which has become a platform for former players to jump back into the spotlight. Founder Ice Cube was asked about the possibility of seeing Melo mix in with some of their best players in the upcoming season, but the longtime rapper and entrepreneur noted the ball is literally in Anthony's court:

“I don't know. It depends on him,” Ice Cube told Zach Frydenlund of Complex. “If he want to ball out at this level, then yeah. But if he think it's a stigma behind it, you know what I'm saying like: ‘I'm playing in the BIG3, I'm done.' If he thinks that, then he probably won't.

“And it's not a stigma. BIG3 ain't the end. It's the beginning. It's prolonging. The end is when the NBA said bye. You can have a whole another career in the BIG3 that might even be longer than your NBA career. If you keep your body in shape and you want to play, I love it. You can play at that level. Because it is a level. It ain't just a cakewalk. So players got to make up that in they own mind and in they own hearts. I know we got something that's dope, especially for the summer. And why wouldn't you want to get down?”

Josh Childress notably got a shot with the Denver Nuggets last season before being waived by the team after being one of the notable familiar faces to play for the BIG3. Since, other former NBA players like Amar'e Stoudemire, Rashad McCants and Joe Johnson have taken part in the league and its success, which could serve as an avenue for their return.

However, those possibilities are rather slim and solely depending on the opportunity. More than ever, jobs at the NBA level are hard to come by for veterans, especially for guys like Melo, who have been the focal point of a franchise for the vast majority of their career.
