Shortly after the NBA revealed plans for its mental health initiatives, the BIG3 announced its own plans for combating mental health issues.

In fact, while the NBA is still going to discuss the terms of their mental health program with all team mental health providers in a meeting that will take place in Chicago on Sept. 12, the BIG3 has already released its guidelines:

Several NBA and BIG3 players have been very outspoken about creating awareness for mental health issues, especially because some of their colleagues' personal and professional lives have been affected. Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love, San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan, and former first-round pick Royce White, who's currently playing in the BIG3, are the most prominent advocates of mental health awareness:

It's good to see that two of the most prominent basketball leagues have taken the necessary steps to better aid their players when it comes to dealing with mental health problems. This is just the first step, though, as these types of programs will require close attention and consistency in order for them to succeed. Still, both the NBA and the BIG3 are on the right path, and that should make players like Love, DeRozan, and White happy.

It will be interesting to see if other major sports leagues will follow suit, but one thing is for sure: the BIG3 and the NBA are doing something good, and they're setting themselves as good examples of sports organizations who care about the welfare of their players and everyone who works for them.
