It might be time to panic because the Washington Football Team might actually be good.

You heard that right: Dan Snyder, one of the most toxic owners in pro sports, might actually be able to field a decent football team this season. Under the guidance of new coaching hire Ron Rivera, and a defense not seen in Washington since the ‘Department of Defense' days, the Washington Football Team looks like a solid contender to repeat as NFC East Champions. Not that that means anything much, but still: a crown is a crown.

The team also did a lot to capitalize on its defensive supremacy by adding plenty of depth this offseason. However, the icing on the cake was actually an offensive signing: the Carolina Panthers' Curtis Samuel.

Samuel adds precisely what Washington has been missing for years: speed on the outside. He's not as big or as smooth as incumbent WR1 Terry McLaurin, but Samuel finally gives Washington a secondary option to open up actual routes for their star. Between McLaurin, Samuel, and running back Antonio Gibson, the Washington Football Team is finally starting to look like it has some weapons to match its generationally talented defense.

As for who will be commanding this roster from behind the line, who will it be? Will it be Comeback Player of the Year Alex Smith? Or maybe it will be the 2020 playoffs darling Taylor Heinicke. There are some that think Ron Rivera still has a love affair with Kyle Allen.

Nope. Enter Ryan Fitzpatrick, fresh off the free agency market.

Washington Football Team looking for some FitzMagic

Now, on the surface, FitzMagic is a great fit for the Washington Football Team. He's a lot bigger than Heinicke, more mobile than Alex Smith, and less boring than Kyle Allen. If you want someone to highlight your duo of McLaurin and Samuel, he's your guy. If you want to make sure that you have a punching chance in every game, he's definitely your guy.

Fitzpatrick is also the guy that will disappoint you with a near-even touchdown to interception ratio. Just as it goes with the 38-year-old, no team in their right mind will count him out, but he will lose you as many games as he saves you.

Of course, he's probably the best immediate choice for the team and a solid upgrade over their current options. With Deshaun Watson, Sam Darnold, and Jimmy Garoppolo still seemingly on the trading block, why wouldn't they think of making an offer for them?

There was no real great quarterbacks option on the free-agent market this year. However, so many are just raring to swap teams, and so many would be willing to go to Washington, where the defense could do most of their job. Washington has the pieces and the draft capital, and Rivera would be insane if he didn't think that now isn't the time to strike while the iron is hot.

Maybe Washington is betting that one of the draft's top quarterbacks will fall to them. Nonetheless, all indicators are pointing the opposite way, and if they don't make a deal now, they could end up like the Chicago Bears with Andy Dalton as their starting quarterback.

Overall, the Washington Football Team showed that they can contend and compete with any team, but in order to reach the next level they will have to find a premier quarterback.
