There is no question that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown will go down as one of the greatest of all time. However, there was a very good chance that his career could have been much different had it not been for the timing of two phone calls.

The Buffalo Bills were ready to pull the trigger on taking the former Central Michigan product in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Fortunately, a well-timed phone call from Pittsburgh managed to prevent them from doing so, via Steelers.com:

“The Buffalo Bills called my brother's phone,” Brown said. “My brother was like, ‘Uh, hey, this is Buffalo.' I literally grabbed the phone, and then once I [put the phone up to my ear], I look down and there was a 412 number. Then I was like, ‘uh,' and I picked up that one. I think it was coach [Mike] Tomlin, and I was like, ‘about time.'”

Earlier in the video, Brown expresses how adamant he was about wanting to join the Steelers after working out for them leading up to the draft. That feeling did not go away in the moments leading up to his selection and his patience was ultimately rewarded. He has since been selected to six Pro Bowls while being named to five All-Pro teams.

Unfortunately, things did not work out so well for the Bills. Instead of Brown, they ultimately went with former South Dakota State linebacker Danny Batten. His career would only go on to last a little over two seasons. Meanwhile, the Bills still have yet to find a bonafide No. 1 wideout to anchor their offense for more than a few years.
