With NFL teams finally able to discuss potential contracts with free agents, the Buffalo Bills have struck quick and will be signing one of the more sought after cornerbacks on the market.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, cornerback Kevin Johnson will be signing with the Buffalo Bills after a final review of the contract.

While no player is able to officially sign until Wednesday at 4 pm EST, players and teams will usually strike a verbal deal well before that. For the Bills, this gives them an added weapon in their secondary, and a former first-round pick with something to play for.

Johnson played in just one game this past season after suffering a concussion during the Houston Texans’ Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots. The head injury was serious enough for the young player to be added to the injured reserved in September.

Johnson is a talented defensive back when healthy, but his health has been a huge issue, as he’s played in just one full season since being drafted in the first round (at pick No. 16) in 2015.

Now, he'll be headed to a team that went 6-10 in 2018 and is looking to bounce back after a disappointing year.

While the Texans may have given up hope that Johnson can return to be a fully healthy and capable player, the Bills lose nothing by taking a flier on him, and if he’s healthy, he will be an effective player.

Throughout his career, Johnson has tallied 128 tackles and one interception, but will need to prove to the Bills that his unfortunate streak of injuries is behind him.
