Derek Anderson may not be a household name and may not have been a starting quarterback throughout the majority of his career, but he is back in the NFL on a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.

According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Bills officially signed Anderson Tuesday. The signing is more of a move to bring in a veteran quarterback to help the rookie, Josh Allen, improve moving forward this season.

At 35 years old, Anderson has proven time and time again throughout his NFL career that he can step in when his number is called. He also played a veteran mentorship role for the Carolina Panthers with Cam Newton.

Buffalo has been very happy with the play of their rookie quarterback. Allen has played in five games so far this season for the Bills, racking up 748 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions. He has also completed 53.3 percent of his passing attempts.

Throughout his 12-year career in the NFL, Anderson has not put up the most impressive numbers. He has completed 54.1 percent of his pass attempts for 10,413 yards, 60 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions. Despite the numbers not looking great, he has shown that he is a capable backup and an excellent mentor.

Hopefully, the Bills will be able to help Allen develop as much as possible this season. They are not going to go to the playoffs, but if they can get their new franchise quarterback up to his full potential in a few seasons, they are going to have a great piece to build around.
