The Buffalo Bills are visiting with former Green Bay Packers safety Josh Jones on Monday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jones was released by the Packers on Aug. 25 after a tumultuous offseason that involved Jones asking for a trade.

Green Bay's decision to sign fellow safety Adrian Amos in free agency and then draft safety Darnell Savage in the first round put the writing on the wall for Jones, who then requested a trade.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at North Carolina State, was originally selected by the Packers in the second round (61st pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He played in all 16 games and made seven starts during his rookie year, finishing with 67 tackles, a couple of sacks, an interception, and five passes defended.

Jones then followed that up by appearing in 13 contests with five starts in 2018, totaling 55 tackles and a sack.

Whether the Packers gave Jones enough of a chance to succeed is debatable, but the fact of the matter is that Jones was a disappointment in Green Bay, and the Packers didn't waste much time in moving on.

As for the Bills, they have a young, talented defense on the rise, so bringing in a player with some potential like Jones definitely makes sense.

Buffalo currently has Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde as its starting safeties and seems comfortable with that duo, but some extra depth could never hurt.

The Bills will open up their regular season when they head on the road to battle the New York Jets on Sunday.
