The Buffalo Bills came crashing back to earth on Tuesday, as they suffered their first defeat of the season against the Tennessee Titans. To make matters worse, they were blown out by Tennessee, with the game ending with a lopsided 42-16 score line — something that Sean McDermott was clearly not too pleased about.

According to the 46-year-old coach, the Bills dug their own grave on Tuesday:

“We beat ourselves probably more than anything, and that’s something you can do in this league,” McDermott told reporters, via Mike Florio of NBC Sports.

McDermott then went on to detail the specifics as to why he believed the Bills ended on the losing end against the Titans:

“At the end of the day, you’ve got to be ready to go,” said the Bills' coach. “Uncharacteristic game for us. Uncharacteristically poor fundamentals, poor pre-snap discipline, turning the ball over. . . . There’s only one opponent, that opponent’s on the other sideline. You can’t beat yourself. I give them credit, they were ready to go. At the same time, we beat ourselves. . . . Lack of fundamentals, lack of execution, pre-snap penalties. Again, taking care of the football. Hard to win in this league unless you do those things, claimed the Bills' coach.

Needless to say, McDermott was disappointed with Buffalo's performance on the evening, and he did not hold back with his criticism. The Bills will be back in action on Sunday, as they face off against the Kansas City Chiefs, who themselves saw their perfect start come to an end in Week 5.
