The Buffalo Bills made headlines with their signing of former Miami Dolphins running back Frank Gore. It appears running back LeSean McCoy played a big factor in bringing him to Buffalo.

There was a time when both players were considered to be two of the best running backs in the NFL. Gore said he is excited to finally compete with McCoy on a day-to-day basis, via the team's official website.

“I was thinking about how we played them last year when I was with Miami, they had a tough, tough defense,” Gore said. “I just saw their quarterback and he kept getting better and better as the year went on and my man Shady. I’ve known him since he came to the NFL and we were together on Saturday and said, ‘you should come, I want to compete with you, and I know you will help me get back to home again.”

McCoy's reasoning for wanting Gore certainly makes sense. He is coming off an abysmal 2018 campaign that saw him rush for only 514 yards and three touchdowns on 161 carries. It seems he is hoping that Gore's presence will force him to elevate his game.

McCoy may want to be careful about what he wished for. Although Gore may be in the final phase of his career, he has still proven to be one of the more dependable running backs in the league. Despite signing with the Dolphins to serve as a complementary option in the backfield, he etched out a solid role for himself in his lone season in Miami after registering 722 yards on 156 carries. McCoy will need to be at the top of his game if he hopes to maintain his status as the Bills' workhorse moving forward.
