Fred Jackson hasn’t played in the NFL since 2015, but he still harbored some hope of making a comeback even as he was well into his 30s. The 37-year-old appears ready to call it a career now, though. But before making it official, he’s working on getting a one-day contract in order to go out as a member of his first NFL team, the Buffalo Bills.

“Have it in the works now,” Jackson said per Nick Veronica of Buffalo News. “That's the plan, to come back and show Buffalo that my career in Buffalo was the most important thing to me in my football career and I would love to retire as a Buffalo Bill.

“We're in the works of talking and trying to work something out that will benefit both myself and Buffalo in making it happen.”

After spending time in indoor football leagues and NFL Europa, Jackson finally caught on in the NFL with the Bills. He spent eight years in Buffalo from 2007-2014, racking up 5,646 rushing yards, 2,640 receiving yards, and 80 rushing touchdowns in 106 games (61 starts) for the team.

Jackson remains third on the Bills’ all-time rushing yards list behind only Thurman Thomas and O.J. Simpson and is also tied for third with Thomas in rushing touchdowns.

Jackson last played in 2015 with the Seattle Seahawks after being cut by the Bills. He played all 16 games, but he was a mere bit-part player for the Seahawks. He had just 100 yards on 26 carries, as well as 257 receiving yards on 32 catches. Jackson attempted to make a comeback by participating in the Spring League but was unable to catch onto an NFL team.
