The Buffalo Bills have been one of the teams that have been tagged as the most likely candidates to trade up in the NFL Draft. Given their war chest of draft assets coupled with their glaring need for a long-term answer at quarterback, it makes sense for them to think about going up from No. 12 and into the top five to try and find their franchise QB.

However, Bills general manager Brandon Beane doesn’t necessarily seem too excited about the idea of sacrificing a bunch of their draft assets for a single player. He believes that this team is currently in a “rebuilding” mode and have a lot more areas need than just quarterback.

“I realize we have needs,” Beane told Adit Kinkhabwala of NFL Network, “and have to get better at a lot of spots.”

The Bills just signed quarterback AJ McCarron this offseason and will presumably be the starter for the upcoming season. Nathan Peterman is currently the only other quarterback on the roster. It seems clear that the Bills will have to address this situation sooner rather than later.

But despite making the postseason for the first time in nearly two decades last year, Beane sees more areas of need on the team which could be addressed with all the draft picks at their disposal in the draft. They have two picks in each of the first three rounds, which should help plug thus holes.

If the Bills really do intend to rebuild, they may just try to be bad this upcoming season to get their own high draft pick next year to address their long-term quarterback situation without paying a king’s ransom this year.
