Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane says he's not releasing rights to wide receiver Anquan Boldin. This is after reports had surfaced that the player might be interested in coming back.

Beane discussed this on the radio:

“We made a commitment to Anquan, and he made a commitment to us back in [training] camp,” Beane told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday. “He left for the reasons he mentioned back in August. We invested in him — invested time and committed to him — and we wouldn't want to just put him out on the market to see him go sign with the Patriots or the Dolphins or anybody that can get in our way or work against us.”

The reason Anquan Boldin left, as Beane referenced, was the receiver's desire to be a part of more social activism.

Boldin, 37-years-old, retired in August less than two weeks after signing a one-year deal with Buffalo. The talented veteran had recently expressed a desire to play closer to home in Florida.

The words spoken by Beane are somewhat contradictory to what ESPN had learned late last month.

In a letter dated Oct. 26 from Beane to Boldin's agent, Tom Condon, that was obtained by Adam Schefter, the Bills gave Boldin permission to speak to other teams “for the sole purpose of discussing a trade for Anquan.”

Obviously, whatever that letter's intent was, is no more. The Bills seem set on not allowing him to play elsewhere.

On the same radio interview, the general manager believes that Boldin will now stay retired.
