Although Buffalo Bills quarterback Jake Fromm has not been in town very long, he has already managed to make headlines for all the wrong reasons after a recent text conversation revealed his opinion that only “elite white people” should be able to purchase guns.

The conversation from 2019 was posted to Twitter and Fromm has since apologized. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo offensive coordinator Brian Daboll feels the rookie still has a long way to go before earning the trust if fellow players back:

“He (Jake Fromm) knows he has a lot of work to do to earn the trust of his teammates back. … I know he’ll work hard to do that.”

Fromm's comments coincide with the ones made by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his narrow thoughts on the prospect of players protesting the flag in the 2020 NFL season following the death of George Floyd. Brees caught plenty of backlash from players throughout the league and even his own teammates.

Regardless, the vast difference in Brees' opinion and pedigree will make it much easier to forgive than for an unproven player like Fromm. He was selected to come in and compete for a backup job behind Josh Allen after being taken in the fifth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Georgia. It is safe to say that the text hardly does him any favors when it comes to establishing a rapport with the rest of the locker room.

As a result, Jake Fromm will need to show that he is invested in earning the trust of his new teammates otherwise his tenure in Buffalo could be a rough one.
