The Buffalo Bills' playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs will be very hard to shake off. Josh Allen's heroics will go down in history as one of the great performances that weren't enough to get the job done.

Allen had a tremendous 2021 season, throwing for 36 touchdowns and 4,407 yards while rushing for 763 yards and six touchdowns. Yet, he was not picked to be a Pro Bowler. With Patrick Mahomes advancing in the playoffs, Allen received an invitation to participate in the Pro Bowl as an alternate. He declined the invitation, citing his desire to rest his body, and will not join his Buffalo teammates, wide receiver Stefon Diggs and tackle Dion Dawkins.

The Bills QB released this statement:

Allen made his first career Pro Bowl last year. His emergence as a franchise quarterback has brought the Bills to the forefront of the AFC contender list, as they have made the playoffs for three straight years and won two division titles. There will be plenty more chances to be named a Pro Bowler, and possibly even an All-Pro, for Allen.

Buffalo has a big offseason ahead. The Bills will have to revamp their run game in order to truly open up the passing game for Allen, and they could make some improvements on defense. Running back the same squad as last season will likely get them back to the playoffs, but the loss to Kansas City showed that they still have work to do.

Allen's unreal playoff performances will make his omission from the Pro Bowl all the more curious. But he will still be remembered as having a great 2021 campaign. The Bills' young star should have plenty more just like it.
