Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will be resting his arm a bit this week against the Miami Dolphins, as backup Matt Barkley will have the opportunity to get some reps in today.

Michael Giardi of NFL Network reported the following on Allen's status for today's game:

This game could prove to be crucial for Buffalo. If they beat the Dolphins, they could clinch the number two seed and a second home playoff game if they were to win in the wild card round. However, if they lose and the Pittsburgh Steelers win against the Cleveland Browns, the Bills would find themselves in the third seed, according to Jourdon LaBarber of BuffaloBills.com.

Regardless of where Buffalo ends up in the postseason, the priority for the team is to keep Allen healthy and ready to go for the first round of the playoffs. In his third season as a Bill, Allen has had one of his best seasons yet and is on the brink of making history. He has thrown for 4,320 yards along with 34 touchdowns, which is more than what he threw combined his last two seasons. As Giardi said, Josh Allen is only 40 yards from breaking the Bills' single-season passing record, but making sure Allen is well-rested is key for the Bills' success in the playoffs.

Matt Barkley, who was drafted in 2013 out of the University of Southern California, will play against a solid Dolphins team. He will take advantage of the opportunity and show his team what he's got.
