The Buffalo Bills swung a big trade last season which saw them land wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin from the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, Benjamin tore his meniscus in his right knee in just his second game with the team. He missed two weeks and was clearly not 100 percent upon returning for the last four games of the season as well as their lone playoff game.

According to Chris Brown of the Bills’ official website, Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that Benjamin is recovering well from his surgery to have that torn meniscus repaired. He is expected to participate in the team’s offseason conditioning program in April along with teammates Zay Jones and Cordy Glenn, who also went under the knife.

Benjamin had a total of 16 catches and 217 yards with one touchdown in six games for the Bills last season after grabbing 32 balls for 475 yards in eight games with the Panthers. However, his time with Buffalo obviously wasn’t a clear representation of what he’s fully capable of as he was hobbled by that knee injury.

A former first-round pick by the Panthers, Benjamin had over 60 catches, close to 1,000 yards and at least seven touchdowns in each of his two full seasons with Carolina. However, he missed one season in between due to a torn ACL and now has another significant knee surgery to add to the list following the procedure to repair his torn meniscus.

The Bills cut ties with another talented but injury-prone wide receiver in Sammy Watkins last season, and the last thing they need is for Benjamin to go down a similar path. When healthy, Benjamin has shown he can be a highly productive wideout. Hopefully for Buffalo, he can have a much cleaner bill of health in his first full year with the team in 2018.
