If the Buffalo Bills at one point benching Tyrod Taylor for a dude who went on to hurl 1,000 interceptions in a half wasn't strange enough, former head coach Rex Ryan is claiming he was actually ordered to bench the quarterback in his last season.

The order apparently came from ownership. Here is Rex Ryan, in all his post-coaching glory, talking about it on ESPN's Trey and Mike (or is it Mike and Wingo?):

“When I was approached last year – knowing I wasn't going to be there, all that type of stuff – and I was told to bench Tyrod Taylor, I'm like, there's no way. I'm not doing it,” Ryan said. “So you might as well fire me now because I'm not doing it. And I thought it was the wrong move, it sent the wrong message to the locker room – we're not going to play him because we're out of it, but it's OK to play you. How's that guy going to feel? Well, they went out and got beat by the Jets' JV team.”

We attached the video for context purposes.

As you probably remember, while still then in the playoff hunt, the Bills benched Tyrod Taylor for Nathan Peterman. That went over as well as drinking expired milk in the hot August sun.

It never really felt like Buffalo were truly ever committed in making the Taylor era work. This claim by Rex Ryan certainly adds credence to that idea. Then again, some will claim the messenger here isn't the best.
