Despite having the word “New” in the name, there is nothing New about New Era Field, the Buffalo Bills' stadium.

One of the NFL's oldest stadiums, New Era Field opened in 1973. Though there have been renovations to the stadium, it's not nearly enough to keep up with the advancement that stadiums in 2020 present.

There have been talks of expansive renovations or building a new stadium entirely for the Bills to play in. However, as of now, New Era Field is unchanged.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wants the Bills to be in Buffalo.  One of the NFL's most storied franchises, it would be a tragedy if they moved elsewhere. He wants them to be successful. An integral part of that is having a stadium that is “competitive” with other teams, as he said in Miami.

Goodell also stated that the logistics of either improving the stadium or building a new one — through owners, the NFL, and local government — must be hammered out soon. He wants change.

“Those are things that the group has to settle collectively and to address over the next several months, if not sooner,” Goodell said, via Pro Football Talk.

The Bills' current lease at New Era Field runs through the 2020 season. It's fair to wonder if they move-on to a new location or build upon a historically significant venue.

Either way, the Bills need to see change with where they play. Doing so can usher in a new era (no pun intended), one that sees a team making the playoffs twice in three seasons.
