Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said he does not need to explain the reason for acquiring wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings.

McDermott explained Diggs was immensely productive during his time with the Vikings while also having the opportunity to play in the playoffs and experience that kind of pressure (via Nick Wojton of USA TODAY):

“At the end, if you look at the production that Stefon has experienced over the course of his career, that speaks for itself,” McDermott said. “He’s played in big games and he’s had big roles in those games.”

“It’s an opportunity for us to get us a good football player that’ll help us win,” McDermott added.

Diggs provides third-year quarterback Josh Allen with another weapon alongside John Brown and Cole Beasley, who had plenty of success in the slot for the Bills.

The 26-year-old vented his frustration early and often in Minnesota, but he now finds himself playing with a big-armed quarterback who is not afraid to take chances for the Bills. That should serve as motivation for Diggs, who is coming off a year in which he averaged nearly 18 yards per reception.

One concern for Diggs did emerge last season: drops. He doubled his drop total from 2018 last year with six, including multiple that would have gone for big gains. That must change with the Bills.

McDermott is right about big-game experience, though. The Bills hope to benefit from it. Diggs already has five playoff games under his belt, including a 2017 in which he went for over 200 yards and made his famous game-winning catch against the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Divisional round.

McDermott said the offense might deal with some rust after missing spring workouts. But he indicated Diggs has the ability to get up to speed pretty quickly for the Bills.
