Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is in concussion protocol after taking a hit against the New England Patriots. As a result, head coach Sean McDermott is preparing quarterback Matt Barkley.

Allen's status for their Week 5 tilt against the Tennessee Titans is still unknown. According to Chris Brown of the team's official website, McDermott is preparing Barkley to be the starter in case Allen is unable to play:

“Until we know more (about Josh) that’s what we have to do,” said McDermott. “We have to make sure that Matt is ready to go.”

Sean McDermott has not been shy about voicing his displeasure with the hit on Allen by cornerback Johnathan Jones. Although his complaints have largely fallen on deaf ears with the NFL, his frustration will not do him any favors with Buffalo looking to get back into the win column this week.

Sean McDermott knows he must have a Plan B.

It is no secret that the offense endured its fair share of struggles in Week 4. Of course, this was to be expected considering how formidable the Patriots' defense has proven to be so far this season. Regardless, they had more than enough chances to secure a win thanks to the dominant play of their own defense.

The onus will now fall on Barkley to help this offense pick up the slack if Allen is ruled out. He completed 9-of-16 passes for 127 yards and an interception after taking over under center. Fortunately, Buffalo will have a much more favorable matchup this time around against Tennessee. While they have also proven to be quite stout on defense this season, the Titans should not boast as much of a challenge as New England did.
