Vontae Davis was one of the few bright spots on an otherwise poor Indianapolis Colts defense for the last few years. He’s been out of work since getting released during the 2017 season. But, it appears that he has a new home.

The Buffalo Bills and Davis have agreed to a one-year contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Terms of the deal have not been made public yet.

Davis announced his decision prior to Schefter's report:

Davis had been with the Colts since 2012 where he was one of the few players opposing offenses had to be concerned about. But, injuries impacted his usefulness in 2017. A groin injury forced him to miss the first three games. He was able to return in Week 4 but lasted for only five weeks before aggravating the ailment.

But the end of the road came over something rather silly. Since he wasn’t playing, the Colts left him home for their Week 9 trip to Houston. Davis took offense to the move and took it as a sign of disrespect.

Instead of figuring out how to appease Davis, the Colts decided to let him go. After seeking out second opinions on his injury, Davis elected to have season-ending surgery. But, since he was cleared medically earlier this month, he’s been visiting teams.

While the 29-year old Davis may have turned into a distraction for the Colts this season, the Bills are clearly not worried about him becoming one in their locker room. However, his signing could also mean the Bills will not try too hard to resign E.J. Gaines.

Along with Buffalo, Davis also met with the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, and Cleveland Browns.
