Following nearly two weeks of free-agent visits with several teams around the league, former Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis announced his decision to sign with the Buffalo Bills on Monday afternoon. This has put him on a team well ahead of the start of the free agency period next month.

It will mark the third team that Davis has played for entering his ninth season in the NFL. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Davis can earn up to $8 million on his one-year contract with the Bills if he's able to meet the various incentives on the deal.

The 29-year-old has developed one of the better cornerbacks in the league over the last several seasons. The bulk of that success came during his six-year tenure with the Indianapolis Colts where he earned a pair of Pro Bowl selections. His time in Indianapolis came to an end last November after getting into a disagreement with the team concerning how severe his groin injury at the time. He was limited to playing in just five games in 2017, which was the fewest appearances he has made in any of his first eight seasons.

Davis' addition brings a much-needed veteran starter to play opposite talented young cornerback TreDavious White. Davis' presence also helps provide stability for the time being with several of their key defensive backs like E.J. Gaines, Shareece Wright, and Leonard Johnson hitting the free-agent market. The Bills struggled against the pass last season, ranking 20th in the league while opposing quarterbacks completed 64.6 percent of their passes against them.

The front office will likely work to keep some of their free agents in place but could look elsewhere with the nearly $25 million left in salary cap space to add more pieces to the puzzle over the offseason. Things could pick up once again in a couple of weeks once the free agency period gets into full swing.
