The 2018 NFL season has not gone quite as planned for the Buffalo Bills. They have now made headlines once again with the release of wide receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes.

The Bills' offense has struggled throughout the entire season. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Buffalo has decided to re-tool their receiving corps by waiving Benjamin and Holmes:

The update certainly comes as a bit of a surprise. It is no secret that the Bills' passing game was virtually nonexistent this season. As a result, it seems they decided to clean house with their wideouts. Buffalo has since replaced them with cornerback Denzel Rice and defensive end Mike Love in a corresponding move.

Benjamin's fall from grace is one of the more notable aspects of this move. The Bills had acquired him via trade during the 2017 campaign. Unfortunately, he was never able to find his footing and did not make much of an impact. He registered just 23 receptions for 354 yards and one touchdown this season. His involvement in the offense had started to dwindle over the last several weeks with the emergence of wide receivers Robert Foster and Isaiah McKenzie. Benjamin is in the final year of his rookie contract and will be a free agent after this season.

The Bills will now move forward with wide receiver Zay Jones as their No. 1 wideout. Meanwhile, Foster and McKenzie will serve as the complementary options for quarterback Josh Allen.
