The Buffalo Bills have indeed made upgrading at wide receiver a priority in the early going of the player-movement period. Still, the superstar they were long linked to ultimately landed elsewhere, and apparently, the team had the makings of a new opportunity to acquire another of the league's most electric pass-catchers.

According to Tim Graham of The Athletic, the New York Giants reached out to Buffalo to gauge their interest in trading for Odell Beckham.

Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday in exchange for first and third-round picks in the 2019 draft as well as standout third-year safety Jabrill Peppers, a return most league analysts believe should have been beaten by a competing team. Did the Bills have the firepower to get a deal done?

Considering they ultimately decided against trading for Antonio Brown last week despite extensive talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's safe to say general manager Brandon Beane decided addressing his team's need on the outside would be best accomplished in free agency. The insistence of Brown's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, that negotiations never reached the point of Buffalo talking about a re-structured contract with Brown suggests as much, too.

“You know what? I don’t know that there was ever an option for us quite frankly,” he said on NFL Network over the weekend, per BuffaloNews.com. “We never got in that position and it really wasn’t something that was up to us to decide. I don’t think the Steelers and the Bills were able to work something out.”

On Tuesday, the Bills agreed to terms on multi-year deals with free agent wide receivers Cole Beasley, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, and John Brown, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens.
