The L.A. Clippers announced star forward Blake Griffin will undergo a routine arthroscopic procedure on Tuesday to remove loose bodies in his right knee, according to an update by ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The dynamic 6-foot-10 big man is expected to miss three-to-six weeks following the surgery as he continues treatment and the team's medical staff evaluates his progress.

Despite a 26-point performance against the Washington Wizards, Griffin's right knee had been bothering him for the past few weeks, experiencing swelling and soreness which he played through.

Team doctors decided to do the procedure sooner, rather than later, as it will get a lot harder to acclimate to playoff intensity with only a few games left in the season.

Marreese Speights is expected to receive the bulk of the minutes at power forward as a big man that can stretch the floor to the three-point line. Brandon Bass and Wesley Johnson could see additional minutes in the rotation according to the matchup.

Blake Griffin leads the Clippers in scoring with 21 points per game along with 8.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists this season.
