Long considered to be one of the top talents in the NBA, Detroit Pistons big man Blake Griffin is looking to improve his game even further by becoming a consistent 3-point shooter.

In a league that is now dominated by the 3-point shot and benefits greatly from having the big men on the court shoot proficiently, Griffin has expanded his repertoire and is launching from behind the arc more than ever.

Unfortunately for him, this hasn't produced ideal results. Griffin shot 34.5 percent from downtown last season, still two percentage points behind league average. While this is an upgrade from his career 32.4 percent, someone who is shooting over 300 long-distance shots in a season is expected to produce at a higher clip.

Griffin has acknowledged this and is taking significant steps to upgrade his accuracy. According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, Griffin is focusing on these things:

“…not rushing my shot. And then, eventually, working off the dribble. Just working on all facets of it.”

Griffin also expects that his new head coach, winner of the 2017-18 Coach of the Year award, Dwane Casey will inject new life into the Piston offense that can free him up for cleaner looks. Last year as coach of the Raptors, Casey encouraged a more trigger-friendly offense that allowed even famously shakey shooter DeMar DeRozan to launch triples at an increased rate.

If Griffin can improve his shooting accuracy and receives a green light from Casey, the Pistons could turn into a formidable team and cause some trouble in a heavily-weakened Eastern Conference.
