There could be a change in ownership for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Former Blazers and Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen tragically died a month ago due to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and a sale is expected in the next few years, according to John Canzano of OregonLive.

Chris McGowan, the CEO of Vulcan Sports, did not return a message seeking comment on the subject. But multiple NBA sources have told me in the last couple of weeks that they believe the Blazers will eventually be sold. The timeline for that sale would be in the 18-36-month window.

This is currently speculative and the team has not officially been put up for sale. The Allen family owns both the Blazers and Seahawks, and the Seahawks are also expected to be eventually sold, with the proceeds going to charity.

If the franchise is indeed put up for sale, it would be an attractive team to buy. They have stars in Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum and have one of the best coaches in the league in Terry Stotts, who has transformed the team into a playoff contender over the years.

According to a Forbes valuation earlier this year, the Blazers are worth $1.3 billion. The Houston Rockets were the last team to be sold, at a record price of more than $2 billion.

With the NBA being more profitable and gaining a lot of popularity, the Blazers would likely have plenty of suitors willing to pony up. It will be interesting to see if they are indeed put up for sale.
