Damian Lillard is one of the NBA's most exciting point guards. He is known as the alpha of the Portland Trail Blazers, the king of game-winners, and the best rapper in the NBA.

Some fans take a big issue with the last bit. They find it disappointing that Lillard–who goes by the rap moniker Dame D.O.L.L.A.–is spending time in the studio instead of working on his game.

These claims are understandably ridiculous, but no one ever listens until a person who has experienced the same thing as Lillard speaks up on the issue.

Brian Scalabrine talked with Hoops Hype and discussed plenty of things involving his life in and outside the league. He got pretty passionate in defending Portland's #0 when it comes to his off-the-court interests.

Firstly, he was bewildered that there were people who disliked Lillard's rap game.

“Wait, people don’t like that Damian Lillard is rapping? I don’t understand that.”

He then elaborated that staying in the gym longer is actually counterproductive in the long run.

“Wow. You can only work out so much! There’s a point of diminishing returns. Also, I think what they’re learning now is that it’s better to go harder for a shorter period of time rather than messing around for hours and hours on end.”

The White Mamba makes a good point. While he has been releasing music over the past couple of years, his production hasn't been affected by it. In fact, he has averaged 25 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1 steal over the past three seasons.

Moreover, hip hop and basketball cross over plenty of times. Lillard is not the first player to dip his foot in the hip hop game: Shaquille O'Neal once got into it in the '90s. Moreover, rappers watch NBA games often and are friends with these players.

Fans should let Lillard be himself and enjoy his off-the-court passions. Besides, his bars are pretty good.
