The Portland Trail Blazers were unexpectedly swept by the New Orleans Pelicans in the first round. They were the recipient of a good dose of trash talk then. And even now that the series is done, haters continue to surround C.J. McCollum and the Blazers. A TV show even gave them a good ribbing.

As posted by Twitter user ArmanditoV, McCollum was described as “swept by Pelicans in 1st round.” Below is a screen capture:

Was it a case of a whole TV production crew throwing some shade at McCollum? Or were they merely insensitive? Whatever the case is, its end result is that of controversy. McCollum himself has not responded on the matter. He has a good history of shutting his haters down on social media.

It should be noted, however, that McCollum was a journalism major back in college. Just from a journalistic point of view, what the TV show did was wrong.

In fact, C.J. McCollum spoke about how he deals with the media. He shared his opinions on how basketball should be ideally be covered. Per Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated, McCollum said:

I think the facts are important, so accuracy is something that is very important. I think people should be held accountable for their predictions or opinions if they fail. As players we’re held accountable for poor performance, I think the same should be said for journalists. A lot of time predictions are able to be made, a lot of things can be said, but when it doesn’t happen the way they said it would there’s no backlash. Nothing happens, it’s just, “Oh, that was an opinion.” I think that could be more fair.
