The latest venture of Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony may just help unearth the next NBA star who could rival his impressive professional basketball career.

Melo has reportedly invested in Overtime Elite, a league that offers 30 athletes an opportunity to earn $100,000 a year as well as help them towards pursuing their NBA dream.

According to NBC Sports, the Blazers star has joined Kevin Durant in investing in the league.

Medical and disability insurance is also provided to the players, alongside an education and a scholarship worth $100,000 should a player not decide to pursue a professional basketball career.

Other benefits from the league where the Blazers vet invested include bonuses, shares of equity in the company as well as the ability to earn revenue from their name, image and likeness as well as through signing direct sponsorships with sneaker companies.

The Overtime Elite League is set to start in September in a yet to be determined locations.

The aim of the league is to allow players to bypass the traditional route of going through the high school and collegiate levels, while still adding to their skills and brand and helping them towards a career in the NBA.

The league will be run by Overtime Elite, a company described as “a transformative new sports league that offers the world’s most talented young basketball players a better pathway to becoming professional athletes and engage and inspire a new generation of digitally native fans.”

According to their website, players will compete both within the league as well as against international teams. Players will all live, train and learn together in the same city.

It is certainly a game-changing investment for Carmelo Anthony. With the help of the Blazers scorer and Durant, the league may just find success sooner rather than later.
