The Portland Trail Blazers are currently fifth in the Western Conference with an 18-13 record. Though the team has lost three straight games, including a 32-point drubbing at the hands of the team directly ahead of them in the standings (the Phoenix Suns), their offense has been fairly impressive despite CJ McCollum only playing 13 games and Jusuf Nurkic continuing to fight through limitations.

A recent video posted by a Blazers fan purported to show the 2020-21 Blazers on NBA 2K21 set to the classic 1961 song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by The Tokens:

As you can see, according to the video, the Blazers are a solely isolation team on offense – highlighted by Carmelo Anthony holding the ball and jab-stepping into oblivion before hoisting up a tough jumper (not far off from the caricature of Melo that’s been peddled throughout much of his career).

Blazers big man Jusuf Nurkic also shared the video with his take on it:

Beyond that, Damian Lillard – who is having an MVP-level season in 2020-21 – is not immune in the amusing video, as he pulls out a flurry of dribble moves (leading nowhere) before sending up a titanic 30+-foot three-point bomb that misses.

McCollum had to comment and share the video by saying that he couldn’t believe he turned the ball over during his flurry of dribble moves.

McCollum hasn’t played since January 16 against the Atlanta Hawks when he suffered a left foot injury, and the Blazers have said that he will miss four weeks. That benchmark has passed with no new updates for the 2015-16 Most Improved Player.

The 29-year-old was having one of his best seasons before the injury, so a first All-Star berth would not have been out of the question for the Blazers' star. Portland is trying to chase many goals at this point, and given the complications this team has faced, the results have been slightly better than expected.
