The Portland Trail Blazers will get a timely boost, as superstar guard CJ McCollum is expected to return to action in the crucial match against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday.

According to Joe Freeman of Oregon Live, Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts announced that McCollum will play limited minutes against Denver. The 27-year-old guard has not played since suffering a knee injury during their 108-103 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on March 17.

McCollum's return came at a perfect time, as the Blazers need additional firepower in their last two regular season games and in the upcoming playoffs. The former Lehigh standout is averaging 21.3 points on top of 4.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game this season.

Before getting sidelined by the knee injury, CJ McCollum was actually having his best month in the 2018-19 NBA season. In eight games in March, McCollum averaged 23.4 points on 50.7 percent shooting from the field, including 3.5 three-pointers a game. He also posted 3.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

The Blazers are still engaged in a tight race for positioning in the Western Conference standings. Portland still have a chance to finish third, depending on the result of their last three games, but they can also drop to fifth. To assure themselves of a homecourt advantage in the first round, Portland has to sweep their remaining games.
