Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard recently hinted at his desires to have a long-term stay in the city as he sets his sights on surpassing Clyde Drexler as the greatest player to ever don the team's colors.

Lillard continues to move up the franchise scoring list after producing 34 points in a 123-98 victory against the Golden State Warriors. He finished the game sitting at No. 2 in the list with a total of 15,013 career points – just 3,027 away from Drexler's total of 18,040 for the top spot.

“I'm gonna pass him.”

“I dunno when, but I'm gonna pass him. I gotta continue to take care of myself and continue to work on my game and just be myself and stay healthy. It is a goal. I want to get to that point and even go past that,” the Blazers star said via NBC Sports.

Eclipsing the Blazers legend may still be a long way to go for Lillard but he insisted on his determination to accomplish the feat in the future.

“If I focus on continuing to improve and continuing to win and try to bring what I want to bring to this city and this organization, I know that is gonna come along with a lot of other things. I wouldn't say I focus on it but it's definitely something that I'm aware of and something that I want on my belt. I'll continue to be me and continue to work towards all the things that I want to accomplish as a Trail Blazer and it will come.”

Drexler played the first 12 seasons of his illustrious 16-year career with the Blazers where he was able to make a name for himself as one of the best players in the league. From 1983 to 1995, the Louisiana native garnered eight All-Star selections and inclusion in the 1992 All-NBA First Team.

He went on to take his talents to the Houston Rockets to win his first title in 1995 before retiring from the league in 1998. Despite not being able to bring a championship to the city of Portland, Drexler was still regarded as arguably the greatest player in Blazers history.

More than individual numbers and accolades, Damian Lillard can etch his name among the greats and overcome an icon like Clyde Drexler by successfully bringing the team to the promised land for the first time since 1977.
