Eight years ago, the Portland Trail Blazers selected Damian Lillard as their sixth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Lillard celebrated the moment by roasting his own throwback photo.

Via Twitter, Lillard revealed that he was wearing fake earrings on draft night.

It's not so much of a biggie. But Lillard got the support of some fans nevertheless.

Of course for diehard Damian Lillard fans, they all know how the guard turned up the league upon getting drafted. In a decorated draft class that included the likes of Anthony Davis, Bradley Beal, Draymond Green, Khris Middleton, among others, Lillard was heralded Rookie of the Year.

And through his guidance, the Blazers would become perennial playoff contenders. Out of the seven years that Lillard has donned the Blazers jersey, the team has made it to the playoffs six times.

This year, Lillard's eighth year as a pro, the Blazers also have a chance to qualify for the postseason. They currently sport a 29-37 record for ninth in the competitive Western Conference. They are three and a half games behind the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies.

The Blazers are one of the 22 teams set to return to action on July 31. They will play eight more games to determine their seedings. From the looks of it, the Blazers have a good chance of extending their playoff-appearance streak to seven years. It'll be extremely tough as the Grizzlies are a young and hungry bunch.

But ever since day one, Lillard has been proving why he's considered one of the best players in the league. The upcoming games are no exception.
