At this point, LeBron James would probably be happy with any opposing star the Los Angeles Lakers might sign or trade for this summer. One player in particular who James has a known affinity for but is rarely rumored as a potential Laker is Damian Lillard, who's signed with the Portland Trail Blazers through 2020.

On Thursday, though, Lillard indirectly and undoubtedly fueled speculation that he wants to team up with James on the court going forward, telling HoopsHype's Alex Kennedy that he'd love to appear in Space Jam 2.

The sequel to the mid-1990s classic starring Michael Jordan and an entire team of Looney Tunes favorites has been rumored to be in the works for years. It was finally officially announced last week, with James starring, Terence Nance directing, and Springhill Entertainment, the media company of James and business partner Maverick Carter, as one of the film's producers. Space Jam 2 is scheduled to be released in July of 2021.

Before that, though, it must be decided what other NBA players will be following in the footsteps of Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and others as co-stars. Would Lillard be a good fit? His music career certainly suggests as much, and so does the camaraderie he seems to enjoy with James, who sung his praises last March.

Asked if Lillard is underappreciated, James was incredulous, calling him “a superstar in our league.”

“No, I don't think so. I don't think so, but he definitely uses that. I like how he uses that,” James said of Lillard, per NBA.com. “If you're a true basketball [mind] – there's not a lot of true basketball minds and people that understand the game – but for me, I understand it. I know. Give me Damian Lillard. I'll show you how appreciated he'll be.”

Lillard, by the way, has repeatedly stressed he hopes to finish his career as a lifelong Blazers – regardless of whether or not he's picked for Space Jam 2.
