There's nothing new in seeing NBA players pick up rapping as a hobby. Big name superstars such as Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal have dropped rap songs in their spare time. Metta World Peace even dropped an entire album in 2006. Recently, Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball made headlines by releasing an extravagant Big Baller Brand-themed music video that allowed him to display his best rhymes.

Damian Lillard is not impressed with these previous attempts at rap fame. The Portland Trail Blazers guard, who goes by the stage name “Dame D.O.L.L.A” while performing, doesn't think any of these lyrical performances could top him.

Per TMZ Sports:

“I wouldn't even say there's a rival…I don't do it to compete with other basketball players … I'm an artist.”

It's clear that he considers himself a level above the guys in the NBA who are just rapping on the side, categorizing himself on the same level as guys that actually do this for a living.

Lillard has been dropping bars for quite some time now and even has an album of his own on Spotify titled “The Letter O.” He most recently released a song titled “Kaleidoscope Eyes” featuring singer Nia. He also has acquired both Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz features on his album, a pretty impressive feat.

While Blazers fans might prefer to see Lillard in a gym working on his perimeter defense more than in the studio recording music, it's obvious that Dame is passionate about his music quality.

Who knows, Lillard might have a future in the rap game after he decides to retire.
