The 2017-18 NBA season came abruptly came to a close last Friday night when the Golden State Warriors routed the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-83 at Quicken Loans Arena, which completed a four-game sweep of the Cavs for the Dubs' second consecutive championship and third title in four years.

It was quite an underwhelming end to the season for many NBA fans, but Portland Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard showed all the respect in the world for his fellow Western Conference rivals in the Warriors.

“Congrats to them. Regardless of how good their team is and how talented that team is, it's hard to repeat,” Lillard said of the Warriors. “Some people get bored with that success in the process of getting it done, but they got it done back-to-back times. Especially finishing it with a sweep, that was impressive. For the rest of us in the league, all of us are trying to knock them off the top and that's going to be a tough thing to do.”

Lillard, who too had his team swept out of the playoffs by the New Orleans Pelicans in round one, still had himself a very impressive regular season that earned him a spot on the 2018 All-NBA First Team.

It is really going to take quite a lot for a Western Conference team to knock the Warriors out of the playoffs, but an extremely entertaining free agency period this summer is what many of us are expecting.
