Portland Trail Blazers star guard Damian Lillard recently shot down down the possibility of Carmelo Anthony joining forces with him.

On The Joe Budden Podcast, Lillard briefly narrated his previous efforts in trying to lure Anthony to Portland before. He failed in all attempts. As such, Lillard has now surmised that Anthony — who still wants to play and prove himself — is not going to Portland:

Lillard's comments come in after the spate of rumors stating that some teams are interested in getting Anthony. The Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be on the list of teams primarily due to Anthony's connection to LeBron James.

The Brooklyn Nets have also been linked to Melo. Anthony has worked out with Nets players and reportedly looked good during those workouts. The 10-time All-Star shared his desire to join forces with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, calling them “family,” and the two new Nets stars have apparently been pushing the front office to sign Anthony.

With less than a month to go before training camp, will a team be willing to absorb the former scoring champion into their lineup? If so, what will be his role? More importantly, for Anthony himself, will he fully embrace whatever role a team gives him?

We'll have to wait and see.
