On the court, it's business as usual for Damian Lillard. But away from the hardwood, the Portland Trail Blazers star point guard is inclined to make music and produce albums.
Lillard, 29, released his third studio album “Big D.O.L.L.A.” on Friday under his alias Dame D.O.L.L.A. Relative to an NBA player diving into the rap game, reviews of his most recent project are positive.
While Lillard intends to compete for the Blazers and bring Portland its second NBA championship, he also has aspirations of being taken seriously in the music industry, too, telling how he wants to win a Grammy award.
“I don't care about it maybe to the level I care about being the MVP or winning a championship.”
“I think it all comes down to the support. I know how big play listing, and being able to get on those playlists is. I've gotten the support from my peers. I know they're listening and really respecting it.”
Damian Lillard signed a massive contract extension in the offseason with the Blazers, inking a four-year deal worth $196 million when his previous contract expires in 2020-21. Although he's well-paid in the NBA, that doesn't mean the Oakland native is done settling for other avenues and career paths outside professional hoops.
Lillard also recently had a bit of a rap beef with fellow NBA-er in rising sophomore and Sacramento Kings big man Marvin Bagley III. The two Western Conference players traded barbs at one another, but we'll have to wait to see if the feud escalates the next time Portland and Sacramento match up on the court.
