Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard was notified on the potential of adding Carmelo Anthony on Wednesday and he made it clear that he’s always been supportive of bringing in the future Hall-of-Famer, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Anthony is signing a non-guaranteed deal with the Blazers.

Anthony played in just 10 games with the Houston Rockets before the franchise exiled and traded him to the Chicago Bulls last season. The Bulls waived Anthony, who hadn’t received any interest from teams since entering the open market until the Blazers swooped in.

Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game with the Rockets while shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Blazers are in need of scoring and help in the front court, so this is a good roll of the dice by signing Anthony. The non-guaranteed contract makes it a low-risk proposition as well.

Portland has started the season at 4-8 after making it to the Western Conference Finals last season. It’s going to be interesting to see how Anthony meshes with Lillard and CJ McCollum on the Blazers. Either way, it’s great to have Carmelo Anthony back in the league. He’s an NBA legend who deserved to end his career on his own terms.
